Did you know that during the First World War a leading cause of death was bacterial infection? Because bacterial infection was so prevalent, one German scientist was motivated to identify a way of preventing “gas gangrene”.

Medical professionals had already discovered that bacteria was the cause of infections and diseases, and antiseptic solutions had been in place since the 1890s. In fact an English doctor named Lister (as in Listerine) was one of the leading proponents of various antiseptic solutions. But the discovery of antibacterial drugs did not come onto the world scene until the 1930s.

This book turns the search into a fascinating and captivating story. It is worth reading even if you are not terribly interested in pharmaceuticals, medicine, or even the history

Mr. Hoye’s narration is excellent, I always enjoy Audible releases best when they use professional actors.
