“Murder in the White House” and “Murder on Capitol Hill”

“Murder in the White House” & “Murder on Capitol Hill”
by Margaret Truman

The author, Margaret Truman, is the daughter of former President Harry S Truman. While that doesn’t qualify her as a good writer, her experiences inside of Washington DC politics provide her with a unique set of life experiences which she’s used to create her “Capitol Crimes” series of murder mystery books set in our nation’s capital.

Murder in the White House was Truman’s first murder mystery and it made it to the New York Times best seller list as well as being optioned for a screenplay. She followed it with Murder on Capitol Hill a year later, then proceeded to release a book every year for over two decades.

The writing is not of the caliber of a Grisham, Baldacci, or Connelly. But it’s not bad writing either. It’s the kind of book that can sit on the nightstand and be picked up whenever there’s nothing else happening. The stories were good enough to keep me coming back to learn the outcome, and the endings, while not surprising weren’t disappointing, either.

With the Kindle Unlimited subscription, which costs $9.99 per month, these books are free to download. With Amazon Prime they cost only $1.99 each. Either way, they’re not a major purchase and they’re worth the price.
