Want a Crystal Ball for your Mailbox?

Usually, in life, there is a trade-off between convenience and security, meaning an increase one causes a decrease in the other. However, the United States Postal Service (USPS®) introduced a free service a while back that improves both convenience and security called Informed Delivery®.

After creating an account, the USPS will send a daily email (Mon-Sat) with images and information regarding the mail for delivery that day. While they don’t image every piece of mail, in my experience, they get most of the essential items.

How does this improve security?

You know what to expect, and if something is missing, you can report it through the email the USPS sent. I have only had to do it once because I was missing a financial statement which they said they had delivered. After reporting it, the missing piece of mail showed up a few days later. They didn’t tell me what happened, but they provided the unopened financial statement.

How does this improve convenience?

You no longer need to guess what is coming in the mail today, and if there is a problem, the email message makes it easy.
