Our nation’s history has always captivated me. Who better to describe the American Civil War than the General credited as the victor, written with the assistance of arguably the best author of his day?

There is no doubt about the authenticity of the antidotes and military details presented by Grant. If there were a map attached to each chapter it would be easier to follow the descriptions. And while Twain’s novels remain ageless, this book’s nineteenth century language and stylizations belabor the reading.
