In honor of our veterans, the Murrieta Rotary Club’s Field of Honor program decorates Town Square Park with thousands of American flags. This year they added the “Run Forrest Run 5k,” which I did on November 5 with my five-year old granddaughter. She was in and out of the running stroller several times throughout the race. When we passed a young man carrying a US Flag, he was kind enough to let Shayla carry the flag for a few hundred yards.
Christmas is my most treasured holiday, and this year I had the opportunity to help stage the inaugural production of an evangelical play written just for our church, titled “True Meanings.” Most everyone felt it was a success, borne out by the invitation to help plan another one for next Christmas. But the “True Meanings” time commitment forced me to forego my running time since the 5k.
My daily step count, which averaged over 15,000 per day in August when I ran over 175 miles, dropped to less than 6,700 per day in November. I’ll get back to 100 miles per month after the New Year, and be ready to compete in the Temecula Sunrise Rotary Club’s 30th annual Run Through the Vineyards, on Saturday, April 29.
The Run Through the Vineyards features three different events: 10k & 5k for adults, and a special 2k race for the kids. Strollers are not an option, and I doubt that they’ll match Shayla’s highlight from the Veterans’ Day race: a free hot dog!
